Wrong to criticise Continuing representative             16/7/09

Sir,

Perhaps you will allow me to comment upon one or two of the points made by Mr John Macleod in his letter to you dated 15/7/09 (We are, today, all losers)?

Much of Mr Macleod's robust defence of the Lord's Day in recent correspondence has been admirable.

He has certainly in this regard put me to shame, and made me reflect on what more I ought to have been doing. It is indeed a very sad day for our island.

His efforts will hopefully at least have provoked myself and other local Christians to fight harder and more publicly in the other battles over the Lord's Day which lie ahead. But his mis-calling of others can not be left to stand.

He says: Much of the trouble seems to have originated from the 'Free Church Continuing' representative on the Committee, consistently obstructive and unpleasant: most critical of the endeavours of others, but with no ideas or initiatives of his own.

It is largely irrelevant which of the FCC representatives Mr Macleod has in mind; I count them both as brethren, and can testify that Mr Macleod's ugly and offensive characterisation of them could not be further from the truth.

Only he knows why he chose to speak ill of them like this, when they have done him no wrong.

Perhaps he will explain how exactly he formed this opinion of them. Better still, I hope he will recognise how wrong he was to write as he did about them.
