Stornoway Lifeboat tows yacht to sheltered waters                      12/7/09

 

 

Stornoway Lifeboat launched just after 10 am this morning (Sun) after a charter yacht skipper called the Coastguard to report that the yacht had electrical problems and he was unable to start his engine.

 

The yacht Merlin with a party of Swiss nationals onboard was anchored in Loch Seaforth south of the Narrows when she summoned help.

 

Stornoway Lifeboat the Tom Sanderson was alongside the yacht by 11.50am. The stricken yacht was taken in tow to North Harbour, Isle of Scalpay. Engineers will visit the yacht later.

 

The lifeboat returned to Stornoway, and was back alongside and refuelled by 5pm.

 

Meanwhile, Stornoway Coastguard helicopter was summoned to transfer a  casualty from Skye to Inverness after 8pm this evening.

 

The 66-year-old was badly injured hurt after a car crash on Skye earlier today. yesterday. He had initially been taken to Broadford Hospital where he received treatment for an injured leg. Stornoway Coastguard helicopter transferred the casualty to Raigmore hospital in Inverness.
