Stop scraping the bottom                                        14/7/09

Sirs,

I notice that our MP and MSP are pursuing a policy that is the cheapest method possible to exploit the limited finite resource we have in fishing. If it is not cost effective to take it out now, then leave it alone for the next generation.

In the last thirty years we have developed experts in aquaculture only for them now to be festering on the dole.

Why are there skills not being utilised to develop fishing once again around our islands. Instead of take, take, take how about putting something back.

Almost every week I see lorry loads of scrap cars being taken to the mainland. Why are they not used in our many sea lochs and broad bays to create artificial reefs amongst which fish may spawn and develop!

Only one idea, tap into our experts on the dole for other ideas and give them a reason to live again.

How about stop scraping the bottom until there is nothing left alive and leave something for our future generations.

Kenny Morrison,

11 Esplanade Court,

Stornoway.
