Falling house prices in Western Isles 5/2/10
The Western Isles is the cheapest place to buy a house according to a new report.
The average price of a home in the Hebrides is £91,544 says the Registers of Scotland (RoS).
This has fallen by 6.2% compared to the same period between October and December 2008.
The number of house sales in the islands has dropped sharply from 78 in the last quarter of 2008 to just 48 over the same timeframe last year.
This is in contrast to the overall picture where the market has seen prices and sales volumes rising annually.
The figures show the average price of a residential property in Scotland increased between October and December 2009 by 1.3 per cent compared to the same period in 2008. This brings the average property price to £155,618.
