Don’t blame the locals for festival problems                         18/7/09

Sirs,

I heard about the hebceltfest maybe closing its doors due to lack of local interest.

I am not impressed by the fact that they are blaming locals for the fact that they themselves can't generate enough local interest in the music festival.

It is in fact they themselves who have never involved the locals (so why should the locals bother) and have put similar line ups on for the last few years that are running it into the ground.

I just find it so funny that the year they do not sell so well they put it down to locals and Circus Berlin being in town.

My son and I went to Circus Berlin last night and I must say that it was a fantastic experience that can be enjoyed by all the family.

The festival on the other hand has no decent entertainment for children during the evening and it finishes so late most children I know are in bed by 9pm, just when the music starts. Fair enough there is street entertainment through the day (which was a total wash out on Thursday) but it's just not good enough.

I know my child wouldn't fancy standing in the cold bored senseless late at night. The festival needs to be a lot more for the locals and make it about families having an enjoyable evening.
