Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has welcomed the falling of an amendment in the Scottish Parliament which sought to remove planning authority from Local Authorities in fish farm applications.
The amendment was lodged on the Marine (Scotland) Bill Stage 3 but defeated by 4 votes, 59 for and 63 against.
Chair of the Comhairle's Environment and Protective Services Committee, Norman A Macdonald, said: "This is the right decision by the Scottish Parliament.
“It is important that democratically elected bodies who represent their communities have planning authority over schemes that have the potential to affect the environment of those who live in or near the affected area."
