Dispute over Sabbath 15/7/09
Dear Sirs
In his letter Sabbath day debate is tedious diversion – (13.07.09) John Macleod writes ‘As for Donald MacKenzie, I am afraid I am under no obligation to join obediently in the games he proposes’. I am not proposing any games.
As John Macleod quotes Matthew 7:6 in his letter I think that it is only appropriate to remind readers how that chapter starts:
1: Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2: For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall
be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
John Macleod was the one that pointed out a person ‘… refused to answer the question,..’
(Campaign for 7-
Not only did John Macleod point it out but he also asked readers to note that point.
Using the yardstick supplied by John Macleod that was how I proceeded. (Remember
the Matthew quote above). I also pointed out what St Jude had written (again). He
seemed happy to ignore that. The same with the New Testament and the yardstick that
he gave for the reliability of Seventh Day Adventism -
John Macleod then (presumably) writes as an example of why he did not reply: And
we have in this not merely the teaching of Jesus Himself, but His example – for instance,
before King Herod -
This contradicts:
Jude v3 ’… and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith…’
2Timothy 2:24:’ And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,..’
1Peter 3:15: ‘But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear..’:
1Thessalonians 5:21: ‘Prove all things; hold fast that which is good’.
The above verses also contradict Matt 7:6 which John Macleod quotes in his letter. They can’t all be right.
In his last paragraph John Macleod writes ‘We are in a (most civilised) war on Sabbath ferries at present; I am an officer in that war; and often the wisest tactics are to drive one's tanks around an obstacle and not through it’.
I find it telling that John Macleod would use an analogy that likens his being asked to answer a simple question (‘If he just wants to do it in ‘baby steps’ maybe he could tell us where Sunday (1st day) is called a sabbath?’) to an obstacle.
I note that John Macleod has described himself as an officer in this war – no false modesty there eh! I don’t know who appointed him but it certainly wasn’t God. Otherwise He would have told him that He was pretty easy about Sunday(1st day) travel.
If John Macleod would get together with his co-
I am more than happy to help John Macleod with the meanings of any words that he seems to have difficulty with.
