Council refused to consult on Sunday ferries              15/7/09

Dear Sir,

I find it interesting that Angus Campbell feels aggrieved that the Council was not given the opportunity by CalMac to debate the issue of Sunday sailings.

This, it should be noted, is the same Council that refuse to consult the people on the issue; and is also the same Council that either refused to consult, or ignored the wishes of the people on such matters as large scale wind farms on the island.

Perhaps Angus Campbell, and like minded Councilors, should reflect on the reason they were elected by the people, i.e. to represent the views of (all) the people; as well as on the meaning of the word "democracy". They may also care to closely study Human Rights legislation.

Incidentally, I was pleased to note that Donald John MacSween continues to have a more realistic notion than some of our Councillors as to what both democracy and human rights are all about.
