Cal-Mac have sensibly listened                                16/7/09

Sirs,

At long last Cal-Mac have sensibly listened to the majority of islanders, and are going ahead with Sunday sailings.

Cal-Mac are to be congratulated on not listening to a small, but very vociferous minority and to a few councillors, many of who we'll see using the service themselves within a few weeks.

As someone who has never owned a yacht and has never been a resident of Goathill, I cannot understand Mr. Macleod's argument that having a Sunday sailing only benefits the rich and affluent in our society, when you consider that the only way to get off the island on a Sunday before now, was to pay the airlines hundreds of pounds.

How John Macleod manages to get from the "Isle of Lewis" sailing on a Sunday to pastors being arrested and our children being seized in the middle of the night is beyond my simple, unskilled and untrained mind.

But I'm sure that someone who in his recent letter on Heb News, has tried to blame the ills of the world on everybody from the LDOS, SNP, gays, Cal-Mac and any other individual who dares to oppose his views, then maybe we shouldn't be surprised that he'll stoop to any level to frighten and mislead the poor people of these wonderful islands.

Finally I'm sure the SNP hierarchy were suicidal when they heard of Mr. Macleod's resignation and as for Cllr. Macsween all I can say is, when you have friends like John Macleod you don't need enemies. GOOD LUCK.
